La Canourgue and the Gorges du Tarn golf course: a perfect day
Today, we introduce La Canourgue, nicknamed the "little Venice of Lozère", a picturesque village where medieval streets lined with canals and exceptional architectural heritage make for an enchanting day out. Right next door, the Golf des Gorges du Tarn and its emblematic Sabot course welcome you to work on your swing while admiring the unspoilt landscapes of the Lot valley. So join us in Lozère for a timeless escape, between cultural discovery and sport.

Morning: explore La Canourgue, the Little Venice of Lozère

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel, then set off for La Canourgue, just one hour from Florac. On the way, admire Lozère's lovely panoramas before setting foot in the region's little Venice. It owes its nickname to the clear waters of the Urugne, which form winding medieval canals, a delightful place to linger. Originally built to harness water power, today they give the village undeniable charm: you will want to lose yourself in its lanes.

In the village, wander the streets of the historic centre and admire the Renaissance houses, lasting witnesses to the prosperity La Canourgue owed to its former cloth trade. Historic bridges, traditional wash houses and overhanging timber houses add a spellbinding atmosphere that takes you back in time. Before leaving, don't forget to pass by the Saint-Martin collegiate church, dating from the 12th century. Legend has it that the former monastery housed a dozen canons, "canoungié" in the local dialect, which gave La Canourgue its name.

After this dose of history, how about a little swing?

An afternoon at the Golf des Gorges du Tarn

Right next to the village, relax at the Golf des Gorges du Tarn, open from March to November, whose exceptional Sabot course is the key to its reputation. With 18 holes, this hilly, wooded course will win you over, whether you are an amateur or an experienced golfer. Designed by architects Chris Pitman and Thierry Sprecher in the late 1980s, the course offers a fine technical and strategic challenge, with raised greens and subtle slopes. A chance to enjoy lovely views over the Aubrac plateaus during your round, before relaxing on the shady clubhouse terrace.

If you want to practise more or enjoy the place for a few days, the golf club also offers individual and group lessons, as well as golf breaks of two to seven nights.

Between romantic walks along the canals of La Canourgue and rounds of golf amid the valleys, you won't forget this escape in a hurry. Back at the Grand Hôtel Du Parc, why not round off the day with a dip in the pool?
