During an exploration on the Causse Méjean, blacksmith Louis Armand discovered the entrance to this chasm, which would later bear his name. A few days later, he descended into it for the very first time alongside the famous speleologist Édouard-Alfred Martel. Together, they revealed to the world a monumental cavity, a unique underground chamber with dizzying dimensions large enough to swallow Notre-Dame de Paris.

The chill factor: 100 metres underground, the temperature remains a constant 12°C. A warm jumper and non-slip trainers are the essential combo to comfortably walk along the cave's footpaths, even if it is a heatwave outside!
